Stepper motors play a critical role in 3D printers as they drive the printer's moving parts, enabling precise positioning printing. When your motor doesn't work, you need to check and test it first. If you confirm that the motor is faulty, you should replace it. Generally, motors are distributed on the three axes, and this article mainly focuses on the X-axis motor that controls the movement of the print head. It provides a step-by-step guide on how to replace X-axis stepper motors for Anycubic Kobra Series 3D printers.
Be aware that the replacement procedure may vary slightly for each model in the Kobra series. Perhaps, there may be minor differences in the position of screw holes or the quantity of screws. However, apart from these small details, the overall replacement steps are similar.

Different models of Anycubic printers may have different motor configurations. For example, some models like Kobra Go and Kobra Neo have integrated motors and pulleys, while others have separate components. In the case of an integrated motor, both the motor and the pulley should be replaced together since they are fixed as a unit. Conversely, if the motor and pulley are separate, you will need to loosen the screws on the pulley in order to detach it from the motor.
Step 1:Unplug power cable and unload filament.
To ensure safety, unplug the power cable of your 3D printer. Remove the filament from the 3D printer extruder to avoid any obstruction during the replacement.
Step 2:Remove motor from X-axis.
Use an Allen key to remove the secure screws distributed on the Z-axis carriage. Then, release the belt from the motor pulley and unplug the motor cable to completely separate the motor from the X-axis.
Step 3:Install a new motor.
This installation step is the complete opposite of the second step of removing the old motor. Use a tool to tighten the screws and securely attach the new motor to the X-axis carriage. Then, install and fasten the belt onto the motor pulley. To prevent any issues with printing accuracy problems caused by a loose belt, tighten the belt by rotating the knob which is the belt tensioner. Finally, plug in the motor cable to finish the installation.
Step 4:Test your 3D printer.
After installing the new X-axis motor, it is important to test whether you have replaced it properly. Make the print head move along the X-axis by the printer display. Verify that the movement is smooth and accurate to confirm the proper installation.
